Doesn't an '86 still have a mechanical fuel pump? I ran an '86 Caprice last year and the 350 in it had a mechanical. But it was dead and I swapped in a 305 from a '91, so I had to run an electric fuel pump.
Just use one that is rated for carbs and you shouldn't have to worry about a return line or regulator. |

| We got 2 fuel pumps from a guy for free. I dont know if they are carb rated or not. when we hooked them up and tried to start the car it wouldnt go. when it was turning over it fired a couple times and sounded like it wanted to go but never did. Does this mean there is not enough fuel flowing? We took a plug out and it didnt seem to be soaked so i dont think it was flooded.... Any ideas? |

| Hmmm, don't know. I doubt it isn't getting enough fuel as electric fuel pumps are either rated for carb or EFI. One rated for EFI w/ no regulator would give you too much fuel. |

| I think we are just gonna take the fuel pump out of the gas tank and try and mount that somewhere..... and if that doesnt work i'll probably go to the auto parts store and buy a new pump |

| Both Purolator & Mr Gasket companies make a cube type fuel pump that is under $40 & is super easy to install. One pump is a low pressure for carb engines & another is higher pressure for fuel injected engines. I have both & they have lasted 2 years now, well worth the small investment. Check out at Advance Autoparts, O'rielly etc. |

| I got lucky....took the fuel pump outta the stock tank and it fit in the boat tank. drilled a couple holes for fuel line, return line, and wires. It works perfectly. |

Before you buy anything, check the simple things first. My buddy was at the track when his car wouldn't start. He figured he burned the fuel pump up. So, he baught a new one at the local parts store and installed it on the trani hump, running the lines through the inside of the car. That still didn't work. After about an hour, he thought to check out his gas can/tank. Turned out that his fuel line was down too far in the gas can/tank and was hitting bottom. It wasn't allowing the pump to draw fuel. I'm sure this isn't your problem, but it never hurts to check the small things. It may save you some money and time.

Reaper, read the original post again. I'm pretty sure the fuel pump is his problem! |

| Yeah if its EFI you need a fuel pump that delivers around like 50-80 psi other wise use one that just puts out 5-10 psi. I built a raffle car that was a 86 Cadillac with EFi i just took the pump outta the fuel tank along with all the sending unit stuff and cut a hole in my boat gas tank and sealed it with silicone and screwed it in place it works great. |
Check out my pics...click the link below. http://ca.pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/demolitionnut1/my_photos If it has wheels or breasts sooner or later it's gunna give you some trouble. |

| redgreen, you gotta remember theres more than one type of EFI. There's throttle body injection that requires about 15lbs. and there's multiport that requires more in the neighborhood of 40-50lbs. I'm guessing this delta is TBI so if you wanted to use something other than stock you should look for the 15lb pump. |

| Also ck pump function. Most of the lower priced fuel pumps work better pushing, than pulling fuel. |
