im building a compact for my bro, i usually run the full size cars and put 3/4 ton springs in to stiffen it up. But ive read on here to stuff the shocks to raise it up a bit and stiffen up the rear end. I have never done this before...so i was just wondering how to do it?Do i have to remove the plastic on top of the shock? it probadly is a stupid question, but i have never done it, and truly have no idea how. So if someone could tell me "EXACTLY" how to do this it would be greatly appreciated.

Make sure those are shocks, and not struts. I don't think you can stuff those. Could be wrong.

try this instead drill and tap a hole in the bottom put a grease zert in it and pump it full of grease. this is what my teacher told me to do. it has a better chance of staying together and you can pack it to the max

Why. Because I can. Whats your reason??

Stuf a fe greasy rags up into the dust sheild with a long scredriver, bounce the rear, stuff a few more, bounce, etc. Do this till you get the height and stiffness you want.

I did this to my 75 Cadillac (coil rear). I jacked it up, stuffed some rags in the shocks with a long screw driver, lowered the car & jumped on the trunk a couple times & repeated till it was high enough. The back end did not bend down but in my second round I blew out the bottom eye hole on the shock. This worked great but the car is so stiff that it can cause your rear to bounce. I do like the spray foam idea but you will have to take the shocks out to fill em.

Cad-

sounds to me like you may have put too many rags in. I stuff with rags, but not to the point when driving she bounces real stiff. I leave some play, less play than normal, but achieve the lift I am looking for without being to rigid thus stressing the lower bolt hole of the shock.

Rags work great. I use to work in construction and the spray foam would probably have to be applied repetedly, as it is easily compacted. Just a thought. If it works out let me know interested in knowing for the future.

Rags work, Old duct tape w/ dirt on it works well also easy to stuff with a screwdriver. Don't go to hard with it, give it a little play.

Old inner tubes work well also.

Most people pull the trigger with their finger. I do it with my right foot.

Demo-Yeah, I was stuck on the rags idea too much I think. Just got back in to the derby fold this year, didn't have any old tubes at my disposal, plenty of greasy rags...out of sight out of mind I guess. LOL.

Gotcha DJ, no issues in need of tissues here. Honestly though, never thought of using old tubes. I am sure it stiffens it up nice but gives you a softer bounce along with it.

Zerk them and put grease in? I don't know, a lot of people get truck coil springs to help out the front. I haven't tried it, but I guess others have. I can't recall if they take the ones off the back of the car put them on front with the truck springs in back, or if they run truck springs in the front and leave the factory ones in the back. I haven't had too many issues, in my opinion (taken from someone that has not done much to the front suspension) tires make a difference and the adjusting the location of the front bumper makes a difference. Anyway, that's my two cents in somewhat feable attempt to answer your question. Hopefully some others with vaster knowledge on this matter will chime in.

I did the muffler clamp trick, as a teenager. Had a 62 Ford Fairlane, and wanted to get it higher in the rear. Drove it for about three days, and it ripped the top of the shocks, and dropped it down on one side.
But I guess it might work for one derby.
