Under The Hood Tips

It's the little things that win races. Here are a few under-the-hood tips..

For better detail, click on the pictures for larger versions.

Put a plastic bag over the coil and distrib. to help keep them dry. Don't leave ANY way for water to find it's way in there. Also.. Duct tape up the rad hoses and heater core hoses (our rules require the heater core to be disconnected, but we still wrap the hoses).
Another view of the wrapped hoses. Also notice where the rad. overflow hose runs.. Outside from under the hood.. When you do this TIE IT DOWN.. It'll really try and break loose when boiling water is shooting out of it. Rich Hancock also had a good idea: Take the over flow hose and try to run it inside the frame for a about 6". This way if you start to get hot, the other drivers won't know. This is one thing I look for on cars that are almost to go down and I'm always ready to help someone out if you know what I mean.
Wrap up EVERY electrical connection under the hood. Also, wrap up EVERY electrical gizmo that you don't move into the driver's compartment.
Well.. It's not under the hood.. but it's a good tip. Tape or glue your ignition key in the ignition.. It's a real pain to have to search the floor for a key that fell out during a derby!
