BATTERY RELOCATION

Complements, John Brophy

Here's the battery cable junction all wrapped up. Don't skimp on this part, if you don't cover the positive terminal good, you might loose the race, your battery or your health when the battery blows up! Notice the cables are WELL clear of the exhaust manifolds!
Bring the cables up through the floor. I run the cables through a piece of heater hose wrapped in duct tape. In this case, I popped out a drain plug in the floor pan and ran the cables in. You'll probably have to cut a hole in the kick panel. Don't be afraid to make this hole oversized (but -- likewise, don't remove the floor). I also don't recommend running the wires to the pass side if your starter is on the driver's side. It's leaves more wire under the hood to get hit or melt.
Now mount your battery inside the car. I usually mount the battery on the driver's side, where the rear driver's side pass butt would be. The second place I'd mount it is where the front pass feet go. Only problem here is if you take a wallop on the pass door, it might hit your battery. Usually one side of the battery is closer to metal then the other. ALWAYS mount the battery such that the positive terminal is on the side FURTHEST from metal.
I mount my battery w. a piece of chain run through the floor.
Tightened down w/ a piece of threaded rod (NOT a bolt).. This allows me to really tighten that battery down. IF you can move the battery by hand (even w/ EVERY OUNCE of force you can muster up), it's too loose..
I like quick disconnect battery terminals. The bolt together ones break and are a general pain. I found these in my local parts store. They really kick ass.
Here's the start button. It's mounted on the dash, nothing complex. A word of advise. If you can find a way to mount the button so that your finger presses DOWN to start the car -- DO IT.. If you're pressing the button forward (like this one), and you take a nose hit you're going to bend your finger over backwards (been there done that). If you are forced to mount the button like this, you might want to think about using your palm to press it, not your finger..
