Front Chaining Tips

So your not allowed to run ready-rod? Here's how to use chain and get the same effect!

For better detail, click on the pictures for larger versions.

Find a place close to the front of the car, but still behind the rad support where you can wrap a chain around the frame. In the case of this car, I had to cut a hole in the metal (right through the stock battery box).
Top view. See how you can get around the frame.
Wrap a chain around the frame, and bolt (threaded rod is probably unnecessary here, but coulden't hurt)
Top view of chained frame.
Cut holes in the hood directly above the location of the chain on the frame. Lower the hood and pull the chains through.
Bring the chains together and using threaded rod, bolt the chains to each other. I tighten this rod untill I can play guitar on the chains. This will pull the hood down a good 1/4" under the top of the fenders (a VERY good thing!)
All you got left is to tie off the extra chain -- if you have any. This chaining process does the same thing as using ready rod frame to hood. When you use ready rod, you're supposed to use the mother of all washers, so the rod can't pull through the hood. With this chaining scheme, the chain crosses over half the hood -- so it would have to pull through ALL that metal to fail.
All chained down and ready to go.. Notice the extra chains half way up the hood.. These keep the hood from folding when hit from the front..
