BATTERY TIPS & TRICKS

Complements, Dean Barratt

24 volt start with 12 volt ignition,

Get 2 x 12 volt batteries we will call them (a) battery and (b) battery take your (a) battery and run your earth to the motor then from the positive on (a) battery you run all your accessories start wire, coil etc. now from the positive of  (a) battery you run a cable to the earth of (b) battery then the positive of (b) battery your run a cable to the starter motor positive now all your 12 volt things will still run on 12 volt and the starter will turn over on 24 volt . you cant sit there for five minutes cranking it over because the starter will burn out, but for a derby its good when the motors hot and hard to crank over . would also be wise to check starter every 4 derbies if you have been using the starter a fair bit . I have used this on a 302 Cleveland with a c4 and rat trap type starter with the separate solenoid and it works very well.
