Air Cleaner Assembly Tips

Here's a nice hint to keep the carb from taking a big drink if your radiator takes a hit.

For better detail, click on the pictures for larger versions.

Start by removing the air cleaner assembly from the motor and placing it on a hard surface. Take a hammer (preferably a 5 pound hand held hammer) and smash the snorkle closed. This will keep water from being sucked in if your radiator blows.
If you need to, you can cut the round opening off, squish the oval opening down, and pinch it closed with a pair of pliers.
Now, cut a hole in the bottom of the assembly, directly BEHIND the carb (as far away from the front of the car as you can). This is where your carb will breathe from.
Reinstall the assembly. You can re-use the stock paper filter UNTIL race time. Before you chain down your hood, remove the paper filter. If the carb back-fires, the paper will catch fire and could get you DQed.
